So I'm wondering if this coin is authentic or not, and I'm not experienced at all tell the difference between real and fake. Could you all help in confirming whether or not this is a counterfeit?

I'm not an expert on these, but IMO this does not look authentic...

Can you post more close-up pics, or a pic of the obverse like you have for the reverse?

Definitely fake, surfaces look way off as does lettering.

Well, I would weigh it and check against the weight listed here on the CCF.

The coin looks pretty polished but I can't, IMO, say for sure it's counterfeit, though...

Have it checked out by an expert in hand.

At first glance it shouted fake no doubt, but after Moe145 opinion I agree further checking is warranted.

If it is real it would be a very late die state and that can change the details and lettering drastically.

If real it looks like it was buried and that can have drastic effects.

Of course a good fake may try to make these elements appear to cover up bad workmanship.

Have you seen the excellent write-up on Counterfeit Draped Bust Dollars, from an earlier post? Really worth a look... http://home.comcast.net/~reidgold/d.../page_7.html
