Had a pretty successful cherrypick today. Bought 22 nickels out of the "no date" pile for a pretty low price. I was looking for mint marked nickels or dateless 21's to soak in vinegar. I got a dateless 1913S Type 1, 2 clear but partial date 1914S nickels, and various others from the teens and 20s that looked interesting. 2 of them were no dates, one looks like it ends in 0 or 6 and one S mint mark that ends in 3 for sure but doesn't have enough showing to tell if it's 13 or 23.

Then there's this guy:

1914-D-Buffalo-Nickel-Maybe
1914-D-Buffalo-Nickel-Maybe

And the close up:

1914-D-Buffalo-Nickel-Maybe

So I'm like 99% sure that I'm seeing a 1914D, but I thought I'd get a second opinion before I declare victory. What do you guys think?

It's really hard to tell, have you tried zooming on on the date?

Too bad its not a penny

Looks like a 14 to me, I had a 1914 I found soaking and it looked just like that in the early stages.

I'd bet the ranch (but I don't have one) on 14-D... It's pretty obvious actually.

Yeah, I'm going to have to get it slabbed if I ever want to sell it though. Too hard to convince someone of what it is.

I have something of an unofficial goal of buying the key/semi-key buffaloes for under $1 each. So far I've got 1913D-T2, 1921S and now 1914D. Hopefully my luck holds out!

is this coin restored?
if not congrats
I am trying to complete a nice buffalo set without spending more then 2 dollars on any coin
I want as many VG-F examples as possible though
the later dates aren't a problem yet and people's bargain bins help out a lot too

No it's not restored. How far along are you with your set? I'm kinda trying the same thing, but I actually think 31S will be harder than 13S-T2 since most of them will be very readable. I've got all the 30's for under $1 except that one so far.

I think you got the 14D, however its not worth slabbing IMO. It would cost to much to slab vs ROI.

The last picture was under a 10x loupe. I saw the 4 naked eye and picked it up because of that.
