Can anyone explain to me what trolling means? I belong to about six forums, and this is only posted on coin forums that someone is trolling. I don"t tweet, text, or chat so this may be why I am ignorant to this term?
Thanks Big Ed

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Trolling is intentionally provocative, offensive, controversial, or otherwise obnoxious posting in order to elicit a response.
Trolls are primarily attention seekers who typically have little of value to add to a topic.

Except for the fishing one (really fishing, like in water!), I think all the various definitions I've seen are sinister, really negative things.

"Troll", the verb, comes from "troll", a noun, and the noun has an ancient origin -

"In Norse mythology, a troll is a generally negative synonym for jötunn. Later, in Scandinavian folklore, trolls became beings in their own right. In modern times trolls are depicted in a variety of media. ... In Old Norse sources, trolls are said to dwell in isolated mountains, rocks, and caves, sometimes live together ..., and are rarely described as helpful or friendly." from -

It takes two to troll Something to consider when a pointless discussion continues for 10+ pages.

By responding to them, that shows that they have succeeded in their goal to upset you and that you gave them the attention that they wanted. So in a way, they win.

Don't feed the trolls, people.
Rest in Peace

I learned from my dad how to treat "trolls". His time (as a farmer) was valuable, and when a troll dropped by the farm to argue religion and politics with him while he was trying to get something accomplished, he just politely agreed with them, no matter which side (sometimes both) they took on a topic. Didn't take long for them to catch on, and they seldom returned to waste his time.
