I bid on this auction but I did not make the reserve. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...58&rd=1&rd=1I was offered a 2nd chance offer (scary in itself) but I think it is real. Is this a good price for this coin? It fit's into my collection perfectly. This also seems to have a miss aligned die as well as the rotated reverse. Is This a good deal? Thanks in advance for your help.

Recontact the buyer, through ebay via the auction itself, to confirm it's a true Second Chance. I know nothing about the seller, but his feedback is tremendous. The cent itself looks weak on the bottom of the reverse, but they're out of my skillset so I leave it to you to decide if it's worthy. Edit: Heritage records think that's about F12 money for a "normal" coin - this one probably doesn't reach VG8.

I guess it depends on how much you want it. How much does he want for it?

He'll sell it for my bid of $74.01
The obverse looks nice and it's the rotation I'm paying for. This would be my oldest US coin if I buy it. Fits into 2 different type sets I'm working on.
I just want to know if it's a good deal, an ok deal, or a fair price. What would you grade it?
Thanks for the help.

Hi Errorcoins
I have to tell you from the auction pics I'm not sure how you made the decision to bid on this coin ? and I'm pretty sure that the pics are the reason why the coin did not sell ,, there is no way to tell the grade or the authenticity of the coin ,,
ask for better pics before you decide to buy this coin !!!

The photos seem fine to me ( I'm a photographer) and most auctions have horrible pictures which won't stop my bid.
The seller has awesome feedback.
Is there any reason you think it is a fake, it looks real too me, but this is not my field.
I am intereseted in the coin bescause it has good detail and has a 50 degree rotated reverse.
I just want to know if it a good deal.
Thanks

I think this devolves to, "Do you think it's a good deal?" It's a G6 coin at best. They're not uncommon (Heritage returned 36 of them with rotated dies). There appears to be no real price differential with the rotated die.
My opinion? Pass this one up.

This coin looks to me like it was lightly polished as sometime in its long history and has naturally retoned. Just my Two Cents worth..... Ahem... my Half Cents worth.

Agreed. An awful lot of old copper has been polished/cleaned and retoned. That looks like it could be another example. Not a bad coin, but the price is high. I think you can find a nicer example and a reasonable price.

I'll have to agree with that. That coin is only a G4 and from the photos I wouldn't buy it from the little I see. As to the reverse rotation, that is nice for an error collector, but for anything else, that coin is YUK.

here is a 1828 "Phantom 8" that is rotated 15% on the reverse and looks alot better than the one you asked about even though not as much rotation this one is only about 20 bucks more than your bid (their price is $90.00) Here is their description of the coin, 1828 Large Cent N6 Phantom 8 Deep glossy steel brown. Remnants of a "phantom 8" can be seen between the first 8 and the 2 in the date. Delicate die crack between the second 8 and star 13. Reverse rotated about 15 degrees counter-clockwise. Sharp example. Dont know if you are interested or not but just saw it and figured I would share it with you. There are plenty of rotated reverse coins in the old american copper series if you look around you will find one in alot better shape than the one you showed and maybe with as much if not more rotation. out of the seven 1/2 and 1 cent copper coins in my Dansco album four of them have some rotation on the reverse and it is so common in the series that none of them were noted on the slabs they were in

Bryan, the one I was looking at was a bust Half Cent. I already have a rotated reverse Large Cent simalar to the one you showed. Mine is a lesser grade, but but the rotattion is like 70 degrees off. Thank you for all of your help, Everyone
