First of all, brand new here, in fact new to coin collecting. While searching through 10 rolls of nickels I found a 2004 $1 Mexican peso. Is this common?

Congratulations, you've made a profit of roughly 3 cents...before exchange costs.

Thanks for the reply, didn't ask about a profit. Was curious if it was common to find these in rolls.

I've only done a few nickel rolls and I haven't found a foreign coin yet. I would say they are relatively uncommon, maybe harder than War Nickels which are worth far more than a peso. There is a nickel thread here...they might have a better idea.

to this here community. I have searched 12 boxes and some rolls and only once that I remember I have found a peso. I find a lot of Bermuda/Bahama Nickels though.

to the CCF. To your question ... no they are not 'common' where I live ... Maryland USA. That might be different say in a southern Texas border town. Anyways ... I compile data on my nickel roll search finds and the last summary I completed for foreign finds was a while back when I passed through 200,000 nickels searched. At that time I had found 5 total Mexico 1 pesos ... an average of 1 every 40,000 nickels searched. Makes them a uncommon but not rare find for me. David

These days they're about 1 for every 7 war nic's I get. Still nice to find. I've got 13 proofs ('68s-05s) on my desk sitting in a jar that I've found since Christmas, and I dont mess with them enough to do something with 'em. Getting pretty pathetic here. But curiosly, I've never seen so many foreigns before. Probably the result of spent piggybanks.

I get lots of Barbados, Euro cents, American, but never Mexican. Used to get some British 10p but not anymore. It's all relative to the immigrant population around.

I love these kinds of finds, if only because its much more interesting to find a foreign coin then yet another 1964.
