i have been trying to get better images. this is a coin I posted earlier, and am now trying the image optimizer link to try getting a better result. opinions appreciated.

is that some corrosion on the reverse or just some tape residue or something

it is residue of some kind. I tried saoking in in distilled water for a while, but that didnt help.

Looks like your white balance is off. Use a piece of copy paper for the background and calibrate the white balance. Ideally, you want a pure, white background.
