I started roll searching about 2 months ago and this coin was probably the first coin that I just couldn't stop looking at(other than trying to force a 69 S to double by staring). But putting a coin to magnification was kind of new to me so all of the interesting things that I was seeing for the first time was exciting.

I don't expect this coin has any added value for the "errors" but any insight about it would be great.

The only reason I looked twice in the first place was the near perfect (imo) looking coin.

The first flaw I noticed was the gouge in the rim. I think it happened before plating because the area looks new despite the cut.

Then I saw the line through the date and the strange area near the mint mark.

My biggest question about this coin is how this happened to the mint mark? The lower level D is silver in color as if the D was moved left and left behind a D with no copper plating.

The next picture show more of that same missing plating on the reverse along the second and third columns from the left. Not in the picture but the second and third columns from the right have it also.

Anyway, I had much fun just staring at a penny
