So I found a guy selling a key date Indian head at a very reasonable price and I am going to meet him tomorrow and look at it. Since I just started collecting Indian Heads recently I was wondering if there is anything I should look for when determining if it is fake or not. Thanks in advance for the replies.

Is it an 1877? If so, yes, there are diagnostics to look for. I will be honest with you. Do you really know who this guy is? I would be safe and only buy a reputable TPG example of this coin, especially if your new at IHC's.

You should take a loupe and a scale...take a known "good" cent, for comparison. Is it an 1877?

No it isn't 1877 but thanks for the advice I was planning on taking my loupe but didn't think about taking my scale.

If I do buy it I will post pictures up either later tomorrow night or Monday sometime.

Well, since you just started collecting, you can show us some pictures, the rationale being, we didn't just start collecting.

Is the year of the coin a secret? If not, I might be able to post pics of what to look for--and what to avoid on specific key dates.

If you tell use what year it is, we will be much better able to help you. Generally though, look for cleaned coins, coins that look too "shiny" or new for the amount of wear. A lot of IHC have corrossion/environmental issues and damage issues. Besides that, I can't help you much w/o knowing the year.

You found a guy selling a key date Indian cent? Where did you find him? I'd be a little suspicious pending on where he came from and where your meeting. So many things to watch out for with any valuable coin. Wonder why no one here has got the date of that coin yet? Wonder if altered date? Fake coin? And if it is dated 1910 or 1855, something is wrong.

I think he wants to surprise us. I just hope our news to him is good.

Sorry I forgot to mention the year, I was being rushed by my wife to get off the computer cause we were leaving. It was 1895 and I was told it was MS 65+. I didn't buy the coin because it was more like AU condition from what I looked at, I do think it was a real Indian head though.
