Would it make sense to buy a gambling machine just for the coins? Its not what somebody did, I'm just asking.

If you mean it has coins in it already that would depend on how long the coins have been in it. I had a friend a long time ago that had some old slot machines in his attic and he let me play a nickel machine but told me I could not keep anything if I won. So I put a nickel in and won three nickels, one Jefferson and two buffs. So if the machine you are thinking of buying is old then think of it as buying an old piggy bank.

It all depends on the price. I would assume you're not going to get much out of it and pay accordingly.

I know of a guy who used to be a gambler, but not now. Just for fun, he bought himself an old poker machine, and now puts 'no cash value' metal gambling chips through it. It is a great party piece.

Maybe if the coins were changed out on a regular basis. If left in for too long they would get beat up and the rims would be beaten smooth. These factors would greatly decrease a coins numismatic value drastically.

Actually a great idea. Although it depends on where you keep it, how you display it, is it legal in your area, for use in public places, etc.? For example someone I know has a small vending machine company. And much to my irritation, he has no interest in coins and runs through many, many of them daily. I used to know a person that owned a laundromat and collected so many coins he had a problem turning some in to the banks for what he was supposed to be doing.
If you just purchased a machine of any kind that requires coins, it would serve little purpose unless it is in a place where you could get a good turnover of coins.
