Can anyone tell me where to find the populations of UNIFACE (splasher) coins? Any recent sales prices of uniface coins, preferably on other older coins? IE, Mercury dimes? This one is XF and quite hairlined from improper cleaning. Good solid details. Also, how much is value detracted on a coin that is this rare? Can post pics with help. Thanx,... Gusp
2nd post...1943 uniface. This coin is slightly smaller in diameter than normal. There is reeding on the Rev. planchet surface area near the rim edges of coin on the planchet itself, inside of the diameter of the coin. The areas in between the reeding are at planchet surface plane level. If this coin had been filed down this should not be the case. Remember, this was a war year. Lots of mistakes. Some experiments. I believe that this may be a wrong or foreign metal stock blanked as a dime size planchet. This, I believe, could account for the coins slightly smaller diameter and the loss of weight. P.S. how much metal (weight) would have to be removed from either face of a dime to eliminate any features, thereby making it a blank surface? Comments? If this is the case, this would be a wrong stock uniface. Splasher? Thoughts? Thanx again. Gusp
