Rayston - Hello and welcome to the forum.
The Eight Reale is my favorite coin, I own several thousand copies both real and counterfeit. The originals were THE World Standard for silver and the US Dollar was based on that standard. But that being said, the physical dimensions did vary rather widely. They were struck on planchets that were prepared to an accurate tolerance by weight and fineness but not thickness and diameter. For many years, they were also struck in an OPEN manual screw press - so the final coin was often out of round. Porous planchets - defective planchets and broken dies are normal. For me that is part of the beauty of the series.
