Weak strike? Die break? Someone polished it? Hard to say. A lot of different things going on at once with this coin.

I have never seen tail feathers that looked that "weak" especially since that's an area that gets little wear.

dont know but that eagle sure does have a rounded breast. I am very unfamiliar with New Orleans Morgans (Thank GOD I didn't start collecting them things) and with their weak strikes I have a real hard time with them

I have four 1894-O's but none of them look much like this one .Yes, the breast looks large and rounded as does the hair over the ear,but the gouged out tail feathers and the strange line in the hair over the ear have me stumped.

Could the line over the ear be a die break?

I guess it could be Irish but die breaks usually don't have the rounded angles and curves that this one has. Guess it doesn't matter now, I lost the bid for it. I would have liked to see it in hand thou.

How was the winning bid? I was just curious because it was really unusually.

It sat at $35 for six days until the last minute and then went for $57, I had bid $55. Guess I shouldn't had been so cheap.

Looks funky to me too, cruddy picture and all. Better date, raw coin with terrible pictures and a funky look (let me guess, ebay)........run, Forrest, run!
TLS5933, I think you probably won by not being the highest bidder!
