OK so most of the time I come on here and get alot of ppl saying what they found well heres the one that got away..

Went to my local bank as I always do to pick up some dimes and such to search through. And just like every time I go I ask if they have any 50 cent or silver dollars coins available.. well today the one of the guys that worked at the bank said no not here BUT he did work at another location last week and he said they have alot there. I was like O.o very excited. so I went to that branch and asked if they had any.

And the teller said to me.....

Sorry we just sent them out to the main office where they will be destroyed as they are not in circulation anymore. He said they were holding them for months and no one wanted them... that in its self made me go DOH. he told me thay sent them out last week. And that he had alot....

ALOT...

i asked and was tolled they had over $1000 worth of 50 cent and silver dollars that they sent out.

AAAAHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOO..........

today I am a sad collector.

I'm really sad to hear your story! However, there are brighter days ahead and things will work out. I can also tell you some horror stories that have happened to me, however, I don't wanna depress you any more than you are now. Light up a cigarette and poor yourself a cold beer and relax, tomorrow will be a better day!

it is really a sad story, but the good thing is; you now know which branch you should go to the next time

If it's any consolation, chances are they were nickel dollars. Tellers don't know the difference, and 99% of the time when I'm told they have "silver dollars" they're actually nickel dollars.

That stuff happens. Lousy feeling when it does.
I did not know that they destroyed coins in canada.
Keep at the bank roll searching though. You will get a good find every now and then. My last good one here in the U.S. was $115.00 face value of misc. rolls of dimes, quarters and halfs. Every roll was silver. This was last year and I sold
all of them for around $1,500.00
Not a bad day. See, they get better
If that happened today the price would of been $3,000.00
Now I'm sad

i had a similiar situation.

at my local chase branch the teller exclaimed that one of the safety deposit boxes went unpaid. meaning the guy who owned it never paid. so I guess it went delinquent.

anyway.. said there was a TON of things she had never seen before! old bills coins, etc.. I asked what they did with them. apparently they do not destroy them.. they send them back into circulation. as far as she new. but she was just the merchant teller. I doubt they would destroy these things. I mean, what happens when you dont pay your mortgage? they dont burn your house down.. it WAS someones property.... in the least they would ship it out and back into circulation. but the ones they found she said the bills were in plastic cases... destroyed? doesn't make sense. I bet CHASE has a division that takes care of that stuff and and the make money on it like any other company. anyway. I feel your pain. sad to see things like this just vanish..and knowing you had a tiny chance at saving them

It was TD, yeah I didnt think they would "destroy" them either as they paid someone face value for them. My thinking is they send it back the the treasury dept again for face value and then they will probably melt them. Any way, as mentioned above I agree they were probably mostly nickel but it would have filled out my set of halves and dollars I'm betting. As well I'm sure with that much there would have been a few choice dates in there as well.

Ahh well. At least the Canucks won tonight thats always a good thing
