I recently submitted seven coins for grading to NGC at the "Early Bird" rate (12 working day turnaround)and they are now quoting 23 day estimated turnaround on this grading tier (which happens to be longer than their "Economy" rates). Any idea why they are so far behind on their grading and should I exercise the option of voicing my displeasure and ask for a reduction in charges. I would hate to go "vocal" and end up with seven "Details" slabs at my doorstep. Thoughts? Paleoguy

Tough call. One extraordinary day of submissions could knock them back a week; they can't plan for "outlier" submission rates, only a general flow.

If their early bird is that slow, it generally means the economy will be much slower. Whether you should ask for a refund or not would depend on if you knew about the delay before submitting. The estimated time period is posted on their website and right now Early bird is 23 days and Economy is 37 days. However, due to the "subjectivity" in grading, if you complain, they may seek revenge on your coins. However, if they are any sort of reputable company, as I believe them to be, that would be a horrible business decision.

You're thinking the way I'm thinking DZ. I suppose I'll just "march in place" until I receive them back. At that time I may fire off a "flamegram" complaining about their tardy processing and return.
