Hi All,

I just joined the forum and this is my first post. Let me say up front that I am not a coin collector - rather an accumulator. I have been a metal detectorist for 43 years and often find some neat pieces.
What I'm posting for is some numismatic advice on an 1805 half-dollar that I found in an older area of Charleston, SC (not far from here).
What I'd like to know is whether or not it is collectable? I know there aren't a great number of these "out there", but does it have value in this condition?
I appears to have been worn on a chain or lanyard, hence the hole.
Any help appreciated.
Butch

Welcome!
Great find even with the hole and damage. Very collectible Draped Bust Half Dollar. Yes, the value is hurt substantialy but still a cool piece of history.

to the forum and I agree with the above statements that the hole will hurt the value but it does still have numismatic value because of what it is. We have quite a few members from the Carolina's me included (NC here though) and maybe if you stick around and just show some of the coins you have accumulated you may find it to be a hobby and a forum you really enjoy and become a collector yourself
