I don't know how I found this, but it's weird. The seller also has a set of Cents up with the same type of treatment. Has anyone seen a coin like this before?

I just found it kind of strange. Amy (my Wife) said it looks more like Ted Kennedy than John Kennedy.

"Extremely Rare" is a bit of an exaggeration, I have probably seen a half dozen or so of them in addition to other denominations. I would say the Kennedy is more common than older Liberty punch outs.

A novelty item.

These show up a lot around Christmas time on ebay and some of the other auction sites. I've seen coins from all over
the world given this kind of treatment.

Thanks for the info and link, biokemist! I have a new word in my brain now though, so I'll have to forget an old one. I hope it's not my name.

I didn't think it would be rare at all, just the first one I've seen. Amy likes it and I'd like to see the process. It seems that the clad layer would be too thin to take the amount of stretch. I looked as close as I could on the photo on ebay and I see what I think is copper on the sides.

It went for $19.00 with shipping. I need a press with all the Presidents so I can start doing Presidential-Poppers! Wait do the whole Mint set in Pop Ups. Do you think the pressure will hurt the satin finish on the 2008 Mint Set? *sigh* Coins are a strange collectible.

Amy found earrings last week that someone had taken a copper Cent and hammered out to the size of an egg. But they weren't a bit ugly. I thought it was just because they were brown so I cleaned them. That made them shiny red and ugly. Oh well, not everything works.
