Hey there,

I'm new to the forum and need some help! This seems like a great place to find out info so here goes!

I found this coin this last week and have been trying to find out as much as I can, its been tough.
I believe that this is a Turban bust front and it looks to be the die #9 with the reverse being die #407.

Any help that everyone could give me would be great as far as rarity/condition/metal/location/area?

Thanks! Z-

Similar design to the 1863 Army and navy token, valued at 45 bucks....

Here is a closer example at 48 bucks, yet the backs are still different. Bare with me, I will find an exact example, but odds are it worth no more than 50 bucks....

I've seen the Army Navy reverse version online. I've only found one coin that matches this online and I've looked at over 8 Token websites. The 407 reverse is said to be R7 so that would be 11-20 total coins. I don't really know any more then that.

I went through 7 pages of 340 CWT's from 1863 and could not find an exact example, via that back of coin which says...."Proclaim Liberty throughout the land"....

So who knows if it is real rare it may be worth way more. I am sure someone else will chime in on this one....

Those tokens like many coins, seem to command more after being graded, welcome to the sight....

Thanks for the welcome! This site seems to be a great resource!

Yeah, I'm hoping to get some more info on this coin. I don't want to trade it away without knowing what I really have. Its hard to find info on tokens! I'm positive that its a real token though so I'm not worried about grading it. I got it in a jar of wheat pennies that had several semi keys in it and hadn't been searched so I feel pretty good about that

Zach,

Not much help. Just that your findings seem spot on! 9/407 R7. Patriotic token.
Can't seem to figure out where it was made though.
Anyway, Welcome! And Nice Find!

Over the years, I've owned three of these tokens. Although the Fulds gave this patriotic an R7, I'd say it's an R6 that borders R5. I've often seen this die pairing in auctions, on dealer price lists and at shows.

This specimen appears Fine to me. I've not seen one above VF, and an uncirculated specimen would doubtless fetch hundreds of dollars. IMHO, this is a $75 or so token in today's market. It has added collector appeal, given its mention of Lincoln.

Fuld attributes these dies to Henry Darius Higgins of Mishawaka, Indiana. Higgins also issued storecards. Higgins' tokens have long been labeled "Indiana Primitives", given their seemingly unprofessional style. This 407 reverse has better letter alignment than other dies made by Higgins.

Overall, this is a neat token, methinks, a worthy acquisition for any token collector. Nice find!

It sold for $89, I see. So, my guesstimate was about 20% low. Scarce tokens are bringing strong prices.
