TNG Bedrock of the Community United States 10284 Posts	Posted 10/15/2011 01:04 am Good news, I am 99% sure that your 1938 proof is one that is the Variety One Extra Serif. Compare the S in TRUST and you can see where it has a serif added at the base. Most other 1938 Proof nickels have a sort of diminishing tail to the S.
