I just found a few proof nickels in my dad's collection. The years are 1902 (apparently pretty valuable?), 1939, 1940, and 1942. There is some silver content in these correct? I would appreciate any info, I never knew these existed!

There won't be any silver - both issues were 75% copper, 25% nickel - but the 1902 is worth a couple hundred dollars at a minimum, likely more depending on grade.
The Jeffersons - again, grade dependent - could fetch nice numbers themselves.

Thanks! The 1902 is in amazing shape, no flaws or wear....not sure about grading proofs, but this one is nice!

You grade Proofs on a rather stricter standard than Business Strikes. It's assumed that they receive careful treatment throughout their lives. I'm generally two grades low, maybe three, on a Proof vs. Business Strike grade for coins of similar appearance.

Saying they are in good shape doesn't help much, do you have any pictures?

I would be great to see individual enlargements of each coin without the holders.

Wow, Now you know I like this post! There is a couple things besides grade to look for as well.
The 1938 Proof might have a serif in the lower part of the S in TRUST. Known as the 1938 extra serif proof.
The 1939 Proof may have the much more scarce steps of the reverse of 1940 Jefferson. Compare with your 1938 and 1940 coins you already have.
I found and bought a 1942 Proof with doubled die lettering. At the moment, I don't recall exactly which variety it is. I would have to look but with a close look through a good loupe you might find you have one too.
Nice coins!

it would be great if you could take individual shots of the coins and post them bigger if you can so we can see exactly what you have here. If you can't get the pictures the size to fit on the forum bigger you can use a site like photobucket to upload them and they will be bigger when you post them on the forum

Interesting 1902, I expected a lot more definition in the hair. Also some nice doubling in the date. Cool group of coins!

Yeah, actually, the definition is there, it looks like it got washed out in the scan....need to work on that. I think the extreme shiny finish is washing out the details.
