Hello,

I would like to ask my fellow members to help me determine the values of these. I am not selling this set but would appreciate to know the value of this. This was given to me by my uncle with specific instruction not to sell it unless it's absolutely necessary.

This album is complete except for the elusive/rare ALFONSO XII 4 PESOS..

Thanks a lot!

I would easily assess it around 30,000 pesos with the assumption that the Isabel II 4 peso gold is dated 1868. Your uncle is correct in his instruction not to sell it. It is also best if you will be able to acquire the rare Alfonso XII 4 peso gold even if it's dated 1882 at the very least. How I love alfonsino gold piece... as in my avatar
By the way to the community Kabayan !

@nikolai - Thanks a lot. That site is really very helpful.

@Pandesalapi - Maraming salamat po Kabayan! You're assumption is right. The 4 peso Isabel II is dated 1868. The 2 peso is also dated 1868 while the 1 peso is dated 1863. You're Alfonso XII is indeed a rare beauty! How I wish to owned one to complete this album.. Btw, have you seen these ads on sulit.com.ph? A seller was selling his 4 peso and 2 peso Isabel II gold coin for a very high price. And I was quite surprised that he was able to sell it which I find very unbelievable. Anyway, here's the links :

Also, forgot to add, how do you remove this stain on the coin? It's quite light on the picture scan but when you look at it at an angle, it's very visible and very dark green.. Thanks again..

I agree with Biggfred but if you have tried acetone and still no effect, you may try gold coins in a calamansi. no rubbing, just soak it for about 6 hours then rinse it with absolute water. Air dry it afterwards. again no rubbing.
If in case there is still no effect, just leave it there. I am more concerned with the right orientation of the coins in the album. A little nice positioning will do.
Your album is a treasure by itself and I hope you will also acquire an alfonsino 4P gold in the future
Please let us know the outcome of the stain, thanks

Biggfred/Pandesalapi - Thanks a lot for your response and suggestions. Since I don't have an acetone, I tried using the calamansi method. I just finished soaking it in 6 hrs. It's still there. Well, guess I have to put it back to the album once dried. You're right Pandesalapi on the positioning of my coins! I think I will start arranging this properly now since I still have some Philippines coin albums that need arranging too!
Rest in Peace

For those as stumped as I was:

Quote:
Calamondin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Calamansi)

Scientific classification
Kingdom: Plantae
(unranked): Angiosperms
(unranked): Eudicots
(unranked): Rosids
Order: Sapindales
Family: Rutaceae
Genus: Ã- Citrofortunella
Species: Ã- C. mitis
Binomial name
Ã- Citrofortunella mitis
(Bunge) Wijnands[1]
Synonyms
Citrus microcarpa

Ã- Citrofortunella microcarpa (synonym: Citrus microcarpa), the Calamondin, is a fruit tree in the family Rutaceae, commonly called as calamondin, golden lime, panama orange, chinese orange, acid orange, calamonding, or calamandarin in the English language.[1]

IOW, try a mild acid solution, which won't hurt gold.

Acetone is available at any paint store, and some pharmacies. It dissolves paints, won't affect gold.

Jewelustre or Bad Thad's verdi-stuff might also work.

Thanks for sharing your pictures! Mahal ko po ang mga coin at currency ng Pilipinas! I actually just got back from another visit to the Philippines last week.

I would stick to the acetone too. Calamansi juice is acidic and probably isn't the best thing to be using on your coins.

Hi Saturno, best take it easy on the acetone & try dipping your junk silver coins first, for the experience, reaction in dipping varies wide from abt 5sec to a minute depending on the grime

Saturno, don't worry much with it, because your coin is 21carat Gold and a simple mild acid such as calamansi juice will do no harm. Unless your Isabel 2 coin is in form of silver. Even on my Alfonso 4 peso and Isabelinas collection have undergone mild acid wash. What matters most on your gold coins that you have to watch out is how to handle it without rubbing even the most soft cloth you have. Microscopic lines on gold coins cause by wiping are much harder to get rid off than silver coins. This is because silver coins easily tend to tone over time as seen on 4stages of producing 1828 Manila CS, whereas toning of gold ones would really mean more years (way a lot of years)
