Hi Folks,

I just found this coin in my dad's collection. It is brilliantly shiny and very beautiful (not really picked up in the scan). Just wondering if anybody had any info on this one? Thanks!

Hello Scarecrow, this is a gorgeous and what appears to be a problem free Key date Canada dollar. In my guestimate, it looks like an EF-40 coin which would give it a current trend value of appr. $275.00. This is an underrated coin and higher grades are more difficult to come across. The mintage for this coin is a mere 38K and it's still available for a low price. If you don't need the money right now, I'd hang on to it.
It would make a great keepsake to pass down to future generations. (p.s.: hard to tell from the scan, however it may be the scarcer double "HP" variety!)

Glenn

What are you storing that coin in? From the scans, it looks like a soft plastic flip - be aware of anything that could cause PVC damage...

Nice coin, thanks for sharing.

The Double HP variety refers to the striking of the designer's initials on the obverse. If you have the Double HP variety the one strike is slightly above the other so you will see a slight doubling of the initials.
