A distant relative passed a box of assorted coins to me and it contained quite a few Canadian coins, including a half dozen large cents. This 1859 specimen appears to be in fairly high grade with some hints of luster. The color looks a bit unnatural and there is some unfortunate rim problems. I understand there are a couple of valuable varieties from this year and I wonder if the Canada collectors could attribute this coin. I took a close-up the date area and I would appreciate any comments! I'll post a few more of the better Canada coins as I get to them. Thanks!

Honestly, I think it's just a narrow 9.

This coin is in very rough shape, it is hard to tell if any variety exists therefore in my opinion I would say it is just the common or garden variety narrow nine.
Grade I think is F-12..
Trends for a F-12 narrow nine is $5.50 CDN.
But because its pretty beat up I would place its value at no more than 2 bucks canadian, less in US dollars.

Hey, I would say this is definitely a variety of some sort. It's some sort of a repunch or over 8/9 Try posting it in the variety forum and see if anyone can help you there. There looks like there's something going on for sure with the nob on the 9
