I live in a small town that only has 1 coin shop. I am going to visit my family in Houston and San Antonio the first week of July and was wandering if any locals could point me toward the best coin shops in those areas? I realize that I could google them, but I wanted to know which ones you prefer. I don't have time to run all over town. Thanks for the help!

I am not from Texas, but when I was in San Antonio for business I visited Royalty Coins. This shop is directly off of the Riverwalk. Prices seemed to be fair IMO and the people working in the shop were very nice.

In SA, there are several more shops than the ones mentioned above. The 3 mentioned are your bigger ones. Depending when you are in SA, there are 3 coin clubs, Alamo Coin Club, Gateway Coin Club, and the Mexican Coin Club. There is a coin club meeting every Thursday of the month. E-mail me and I'll get you more info as I help run all 3 coin clubs and help run the 4 coin shows in SA.

I wanted to check out Royalty Coins in SA when I was there a couple of months ago, but didn't have a chance to go in. It looked cool and I've heard decent things, so it might be worth checking out. Great location too if you're in the Riverwalk area.
Don't know of much in the Katy area, but it's been about 12 years since I worked out there.
If you head to Austin, I can point out a few fun ones!

Thanks for the help guys. I will also be in Ft. Worth on Saturday around lunch. Any ideas for that area? Won't have too much time, so I wanted to know the best ones.

Thanks for the help guys! I did stop by 3 gold and silver places in the Ft. Worth area on Saturday the 2nd. Ended up buying something at all three places. To my surprise, there were no coin shops open on that Saturday in the Ft. Worth area. Either closed for the 4th weekend or not open on Saturdays at all. Made it to a couple in the Houston area with not much success there. My best stop was at Lonestar Coins in San Antonio. Huge selection, but prices were a little high on most items. Haggled a little and bought some needed hole fillers.

I can recommend a restaurant in Ft. Worth for a great lunch, but don't know any coin shops. If you want an absolutely superb steak at a reasonable price, try the Cattleman's Steakhouse. Best steak I have ever had!

I went to royalty coins in San Antonio last week on vacation (right by the river-center) bought a mercury Dansco ($22) and a picture with 8 Mercury dimes ($39) He didn't have much variety though. He said all his coins were at a coin show. He seemed to be more of a bullion dealer almost. Nice experience non-the-less
