Doing my daily check of ebay items and ran across this 1937 nickel - 170653829162. Graded MS65. I don't see it, in fact to me it looks like barely a VF. Maybe it's my glasses, I am do for a check up. What are your thoughts?

looks like an MS-65 coin to me, definitely an MS coin, there's no wear on it.

The scan is of very poor quality.I trust Brian a bit more to be out by this much.

Going by the scan, not even close to MS65

in my opinion this scan is so poor it's impossible to grade. It looks quite washed out, so either it's an ugly coin or a terrible scan. My guess would be that the coin is better looking in hand than it is in the picture.

scans make it all but impossible to accurately asses a coin especially through plastic because it reflects a lot of the light from the scan lens/lamp combo.

Read the other threads on weak strikes. That is a perfect example of a gem uncirculated coin, but weakly struck. In fact, the ICCS holder should state that it is a weak strike, but ICCS was never known for its comment consistency. https://goccf.com/t/89894

Yes, that's definitely an MS-65, the 1937 and 1938 are notorious for their soft strikes that give the Gem grades that circulated look. I have the exact coin in my collection and both my '37 and '38 have this look. Both are I.C.C.S. graded and the '38 is an MS-64. The fields are what gives them away when you have the coin in hand. They are virtually perfect and untouched! Glenn

When I am looking at nickels from this era - 1937 to 1952, one of the first things I look at is the fields and then my eye goes right to the tail of the beaver. I look for the crisscross pattern like a file on the tail. If that's there then I know it's an uncirculated coin. This coin from what I can see does not have that look to the tail. It seems very flat. Is the file pattern on the tail, a feature of a strongly struck coin?

I don't really care who graded it, but if it is MS65 then I must eat my hat.
