I have a large 34mm coin and would love help identifying it.

On the front there are the words:

"Dissenmi Nasut Scientia" (is this latin for something to do with God's blessed knowledge?)

There are two pillars (possible the pillars of Hercules?)

On the back there are the words:

"Flor Bar Zabar ICP Archiep" (Perhaps a coin from Bar?)

There is a picture of a beareded, crowned man (possibly the mentioned archbishop?)

I don't know what the metal is, it could be a very dirty gold... I have scanned in both images (sorry about the poor quality).

Any help identifying this would be great.

Also is it of value?

Your pic are unclear, is there any date/denomination on the coin? If not it may be a medal.

What makes you think medal? The lack of dating, the pillars?

An interesting feature is the detail raises about 1mm from the coin.

Lack of denomination and date-I would say medal but instead of pillars of Hercules (I seriously doubt it on catolic medal)try Salomons Temple pillars.Material looks bronze.

Excellent thank you for the tips...

Anyone got any idea who the regal looking chap is? or where the coin/medal may originate from?

BAR ZABAR probably refers to Bartolomeo Zabarella who was archbishop of Florence in the 1440s. As for the text on the other side, that seems to be two words, not three: DISSEMINABUNT SCIENTIAM. Could be a reference to a biblical text (Proverbs 15:7): "Labia sapientium disseminabunt scientiam" - "The lips of the wise spread knowledge". Now whether this medal is actually from the 15th century ... well, I doubt it. But that is a gut feeling rather than words from the lips of a wise guy. ;)

Wow, great input!

My girlfriends grandfather was a respected antiques dealer and as this came from his collection I imagine there is strong chance its from the period (as its unlikely he'd of purchased a replica by mistake).

If it is from the period what sort of value would we be looking at?
