For a dslr camera its all about the lens. I have a Canon t2i and I use a Canon 50mm macro lens, works great. If it comes with the kit lens, its not as sharp and you will need to crop your pics a little, but still very usable. I love my camera and taking pictures is another hobby of mine, so it has many uses. That price seems like a good deal to me. Check out what they are selling for on ebay, since I'm not sure if the one you are looking at is used, refurbished, or an open box item.

It's a return (open box) which is why it's selling cheap. I talked to the manager and he said he would allow me to search the box for wear and ensure all parts were there.
They go for about 250-300$ used and 400-600$ new....
How can I determine if it has a macro lens?

So I ended up buying this camera. Opened the box and everything looks new! I bought it for the asking price at 299.00$ but with a little haggling, I got a 2 year protection plan for free! 50.00$ value.
I always check the clearance racks at different stores, 9 times out of 10, the price is negotiable. Even at corporate stores.
I'll post some pics and a review soon....

The kit lens will not have a macro function. The 50mm macro lens that I use is made by Canon. It is the cheapest Canon macro lens and costs around $300. Other manufacturers also make lenses that can work on your Canon body camera such as Sigma and Tamron. I would try them out before you purchase them so you know what to expect. There are also lots of reviews of lenses online. You just need to put in some research and figure out what lens will work best for you. Have fun with your new camera!

I have a T1i but I have a stock 18-55mm lens and a 50mm lens and also purchased a 100mm lens for it. The 50mm lens didn't do much better than the stock 18-55mm lens to me so if it does come with the factory lens (some are just camera bodies and do not come with a lens) I would wait and get a good lens instead of getting a lens that is going to do just about the same as the factory lens will do like the 50mm lens. There are some people on here that use the XS camera so I am sure they can give you their opinion on the camera because I think the T1i and T2i has a couple features that the XS and XSi doesn't have but not a deal breaker
Edit: I guess I should have read the whole thread before replying as I now see you have already purchased the camera, anyway I am sure some of the ones that do have the XS will chime in on some settings that will at least get you started

Thanks for the info Bryan, I'll start a new thread for lenses to see if I can attract attention for feedback on lenses.

For the record, Bobby131313 is using that exact camera with the 100mm Macro, to great effect.

okay so here is my first photo with the camera....obviously the white balance is off because I used the camera flash, I know I need to get diferent lighting. Other then that, any other opinions and feedback is welcome. The below image is what I spent a couple hours on today...my home built copy stand. I took the pic of the kennedy off the stand.
