We have all seen "bags" of coins from the mint and banks, but when did rolled coins come around? That CC bank roll of Dollars made me bring this question up. Has anyone else noticed that some banking establishments no longer accept rolls? My credit union won't accept them, and kindly directed me to the coin machine.

Thanks in advance!

Saw a 1913 add for new tubes to help roll coins.

My guess is some time before 1913.

I spent a couple of hours on the trying to find when it started with no luck.

Excellent question and wish I knew the answer as I've been working on a roll set of Two Cent Pieces but don't know how many go in a roll.

As for modern rolled coins I don't bother. Just feed them into the machine and make sure you get full face value.

There are patents for paper rolls that go back to around the turn of the twentieth century. The earliest reference I know of is from the 1780's when Matthew Boulton packaged the coins he produced and shipped out to the customers wrapped in paper rolls (rowles)and then packed in kegs.
