Any value to large Ike dollars? I inherited literally several boxes worth and before I spend them, I would like to know what errors or otherwise "special" rares I should look for. If anyone can point me to a good guide for IKE collectibles, it would be appreciated!

Check for silvers. I'm not a pro on Ike but I just bought 1000 of them to spend.

Try the Ike Group web site. Or just wait for Jbuck to chime in. He'll be all over that all caps post. I know from experience.

As the other man said, check for silvers. '71-74's have the potential to be silver, as do some '76's. Ikes are worth more than face value. Don't just spend them blindly. ebay is a good place to sell them.

Looking at ebay, it seems difficult to make $$ of them. I have several boxes worth neatly stacked, should be several hundred if not thousand in here inherited.

Apparently, there are a few different varieties among the Eisenhower dollars. Some from 1972 have varied reliefs. Also, some were coined in silver, those being 1974-D and 1977-D according to the Red Book.

Looking at some of the sites, I can't even tell the types apart. =)
Well, I'll search some. I probably wont find anything. There are literally 2 small moving box sized boxes full of these.

I checked ebay, they are averaging over 1.50 each, even when sold in lots, seems like it would be worth it for you to sell there.

Go- sorry about that.
jimtaxguy- calculate listing, fees and paypal's cut and it's not worth the effort. Not to mention the price per piece lower when you buy in bulk.
Now if you can do them at the piecemeal price ($1.50 or thereabouts) in bulk, that's where the money is made, but I haven't seen any ended auctions that successfully did so.

There are some varieties, I think the 1972P has the best which can be worth more. I remember I traded one on this site for a Peace dollar as I don't really collect the Ikes myself. You could also put them on craigslist as you might be able to make a few $ on a lot of coins since you avoid ebay fees and shipping costs. I know when I found some at a bank I got $1.50 for around 100 of them from craigslist (though I had to post them 2-3 times and sort through non-serious buyers).

There is a web site called jmscoins.com The individual that runs that site is supposed to be a Ike dollar expert and on his site you could see many of them priced in the hundreds of dollars. He has some kind of super collection of those himself according to his personal information.
