there may be some that have been counterfited but if there are I am not aware of them being sold on ebay alot like the Trade dollars and such. But there is an article about fake 1857 FE cents here if you want to read it I am sure you will learn the differences http://reviews.ebay.com/Counterfeit...1:LISTINGS:1

I am not sure which one you are bidding on to give you an estimate of grade (unless I missed the link somewhere)but as I said I do not think these things are highly counterfited or passed along on ebay so I beleive you are about as safe as one can be on ebay as long as it looks correct to you. That link I posted is talking about 1857 but I would imagine the same descriptions would be for all the FE cents, but swamperbob is the residence counterfit detector here and he may have some more input that I know nothing about (wouldn't be the first time)

Just stay away from 1856 unless its slabbed - those might be fakes otherwise. I used to have a nice XF 1857, but sold it several years back. Learn how to grade the coin if your'e going to buy it raw on ebay. The eagle's breast and wing tips are the higher points where you normally see wear.
