nitrolures New Member Canada 10 Posts	Posted 06/25/2011 7:00 pm Helping out a friend with his silver coins and this stood out while scanning the peace and Morgans. I'll be a pest for a bit as I have no clue what I'm looking at or for . This 22 Peace (1 of 12 or so really strikes me as odd . Looks almost like the general center of the coin is completely different than outter yet nothing shows on opposite side. I'm normally on the stamp forum so I am sure you all can tolerate my ignorance as I live and learn. Report this Post to the Staff

Tim Stroud Pillar of the Community United States 2661 Posts	Posted 06/25/2011 7:46 pm That is the residue of some type of glue that was used to hold it to a piece of card board. The glue in this case protected the portion of the coin covered in glue from discoloration due to sulphur gassing off from the cardboard and causing the coin to tone in an undesirable manner. I have several Indian Heads that were like that and I soaked them in acetone to remove the glue and then placed them out on top of a 4x4 post in my yard to even up the color of the coins. nitrolures New Member Canada 10 Posts	Posted 06/26/2011 2:31 pm The Glue deffinatly makes sense on the toning attributes although the squished grasshopper was holding water for a bit. Would the glue account for some of the cracking in areas? I know some cements could have negative chemical effects on various metals but the area behind the neck of the eagle and through the word dollar seem almost shattered?
