Well, I am in the process of deciding to get new holders for all my coins. I've looked around, and might settle on Eagle holders. Mostly, I wanted something that was easy to use, not super permanent (no slabs) and let you look at the coin without the holder getting in the way. Also, I prefer to use an album to store the collection in, and am hoping that I can put the Eagle 2x2's in a standard 20 page pocket. If not I'll consider a box.

I am using all cardboard flips and SafeFlips(tm) now, in a standard 3 ring binder.

What is everyone's experience / preference? I realize that most dealers use cardboard flips due to cost and ability to write on them - mostly asking collectors about this.

I like Capital holders, the kind that hold entire date/mm series. Maximum protection and a beautiful display, all while still having full access to the coins.

Sorry, I should have remembered to say this - I'm putting together a type set - but I'll be deciding which types to include So, I also need something that is flexible enough for that... but I'll check out Capital anyway, thanks!

Not sure what kind of type set you are building, but Capital has quite a few different type set Holders. They will even custom make holders to your specifications, although that gets to be a bit pricey.

I used to house my collection in Eagle holders. They are pretty nice but they are sort of a hassle with their separate holder/mylar combination (you have to match the mylar thickness to the coin). The main reason I quit using them was I felt they offered little or no better protection + viewing than standard cardboard 2x2's. I have since switched to AitTite holders and I feel I definitely made the right decision. The coins look better and display much nicer and you can't beat the protection. They are also available in direct fit style which enables viewing of the entire coin.
Rest in Peace

I have three type sets in Capital plastic holders, and they are very attractive.

My only complaint is that the one for cents had one hole manufactured way too big, and the coin rolls around in there.

AirTite holders offer great protection, clear viewing and are easy to use. I am using more and more of them all the time. They seem to preserve the coins exceptionally well and can be arranged in any type collection. The company also sells a variety of storage arrangement options.

Well, I have ordered a "trial size" amount of Eagle holders, to see if I like them or no. I do have several halves in air-tights...but I would need to buy the albums as well to put them in, which I didnt really like, they were only 9 or 10 to an album I think. I'll see how this works, if not maybe I'll get the Air-tight albums for my set. I'm experimenting right now, since I had run out of safety-flips a few weeks ago....

I don't think you will like the Eagle holders as my wife and I gave them a huge try before going back to airtites. We did however keep the Eagle storage boxes which hold 2X2's very well and all airtites, regardless of size. I really like the 36 coin box but can not recommend the Eagle holders. And, I have found NOTHING that holds a candle to airtite holders!
