My photographs have inflicted a grave injustice. Many of the apparent scratches are not on the coins at all, but on the plastic enclosures. Properly lighting them through this material is not possible with the tools at hand, and I don't yet trust myself enough to remove the casing.

With apologies...

Thanks, jbuck. I'm discovering that taking good coin photographs requires the proper equipment, skills and patience. I'm lacking in all three!

You got that right! I have to take 6-8 pics just to get one good one. You did OK with that one I would say.

I say this is an outstanding example of one of my favorite coins from the classic silver commemorative set.

Strike is fabulous ... fields are pristine and the usual bag hits are mostly missing.

Impossible to judge luster from your otherwise fine photo ... assuming from what I can see on the surface quality this is a fully lustrous MS coin.

IMHO ... this lovely Gettysburg is the finest technical grade coin that you have shown so far ... I would say MS66 from a TPG.

Beautiful wonderful coin.

I have one of these as well ... a PCGS MS65 example CAC certified ... but have stopped showing photos in your threads ... you can read my worries about this in your 'Bay Bridge' post.

Thank you, David. It is indeed fully lustrous. The lighting that best reveals luster is also great at revealing nicks in the plastic, so I nixed the shot. When I get the proper handling tools, I may venture inside the case for a closer look at her beautiful nakedness. Last chance for nudes before sending away to be permanently enshrined :-)

Bill

PS...Would love to see your strike.

I have one of those three; my wife has some great equipment.

However, there is a fourth item necessitated by the third... time; which I am sorely lacking of these days.

Sooo ... I am back with the OP understanding about photos in his threads.

Your lovely coin is one of my favorite top-5 Classic US Silver Commemorative ... what a wonderful historical coin ... and a fabulous example you are showing indeed!

For grading comparison ... I believe you have a real winner here ... compare to my PCGS MS65 CAC approved example ... and note the lack of bag hits on yours compared to mine.

Gettysburg-Half-Dollar

Your lovely should do well IMHO at any TPG.
