to this here community. Many collectors consider gold plating to be damage because the content of old is next to impossible to remove with out damaging the coin and is worth next to nothing. it is worth face value, unless someone wants to buy it as a novelty.

you might be able to get about 1.20 cents for it if you sold it as part of a lot of 500 ikes

It is not silver so it is only worth face value with maybe an extra buck for the novelty factor.

JackB, "high Heresy value" huh? Not sure how you apply this word to coins.

With or without the gold it is worth at least one dollar (face value). Any value above face will depend on who is buying it. Some may assign a premium to the gold, most will probably subtract. It is, technically, a damaged coin. Personally, in my opinion, there is no such thing as a damaged Eisenhower dollar. But that is just me.

It's a common date of a series that is in plentiful supply. Unless it was in mint condition, it's not really worth more than face value. Eisenhower dollars do not contain silver except for certain mint set issues (this isn't one). You might be able to sell a roll of circulated Ikes for 10-20% over face value on ebay. I got Bicentennial Ike free out of the reject tray on a Coinstar once.

as was said above you probably over paid a little on the coin but if you like it then it was a small loss (about 80ยข) so just keep it as something you think is cool. Chances are you would not be able to sell it for 2.00 unless someone else just thought it was cool also. If you could get your money back and you do not want to keep it I would sell it to the first person who offered your money back

I had a two bob gold plated many years ago.
What is a 'two bob'? you may ask. Most australians would know.
The subject coin is a 1940 Australian Florin, .925 fine, ASW about 1/3 ounce.
I just liked the look of it, so I had it gold plated! Is it worth any more than silver value? Nope! It is just a keepsake.
