I found this coin among my grandfathers belongings. It is one of the few coins that is not native to our country. The condition is pretty faded and its hard to try and figure out what language is written on it. It says, "Mon Cathed eccles monasie" on the front with "SPAVLVS" written under whatever the image is. On the back is a very faded 1769 along with the large roman numerals "III". I cant find information on this anywhere. I know napoleon came to power in 69, but I'm not even positive this is french, just a guess from the small amount of french I know. The pictures I want to post are the wrong size name and format so I have to hold off for now. If you know anything at all I can email them to you. Thank you.

Sounds like a 3 Pfennig from the German State of Munster. These were not struck in 1769, so the date is more likely 1739.

Yep, 3 pfennig, Munster Cathedral Chapter. The language is abbreviated Latin. Also agree that 1739 is the most likely reading of the date.

Thanks for the help. The date just trails off so I can see 17 and 9 but the 3 is worn and catches the light almost like a 6. I appreciate the help.
