I saw this coin and am thinking about getting one if it comes up for cheap. I really like Tasmanian Tigers. (I'll admit it, I get excited when I see news reports of possible sightings). But I am not really keen on the whole colored coin thing, especially with the markup that they have on them. Does anybody own one of these coins? Do you like it? Does it look okay in person?

Good luck finding a cheap one, they do look nice in hand. They were commissioned by Downies from the Perth Mint as the 1st coin in a new series to be called, Extinct & Endangered,
Unfortunately Downies haven't released any info on the next issue.
Meanwhile several other series have been released along the same lines, so we can only await nervously to see if series even gets released.

cnsjock, didn't know that there was a tiger on any other coinage. Thanks for pointing it out as I'll have to get one of those. I've picked up several New Zealand coins because of the kiwi's on them.

Looks like I'll have to get up really early on a Monday morning and bid on a tiger silver coin as they have been going for a lot. I think I've decided to get one. Oh well, like everybody says on here, collect what you like.

The Thylacine (extinct) is closely related to the 'Drop Bear' (fictitious), another Australian canivourous marsupial

For our american friends (and other nationalities of course) the The Drop Bear, Thylarctos plummetus, is a large, arboreal, predatory marsupial related to the Koala. See http://australianmuseum.net.au/Drop-Bear

Ha, like the time in high school we took a Japanese exchange student out for a snipe hunt one night. He was mad.... several hours later that is.
