whats worse.
people sell silver lots on
ebay all the time, and they try to sneak in a pre 64 (or 68 Canadian) nickel as silver.
With the Canadian they also sell lots of quarters and dimes without specifying the years, as we all know the 68's could be 50% silver or nickel. but they use the current spot price of 80% silver coins without breaking them out by year.
On one Canadian silver lot auction that just closed, they sold some silver half's, but the lot also included a 68 half.
The seller writes in the description
"selling some silver coins" he doesn't say that the lot isn't all made out of silver.
The 68 half is made out of nickel. The lot sold for a price that assumed the 68 half was made out of silver and not nickel.
I wanted to bid, but it wasn't worth the final price because of the missing silver content. I don't think it warrants a report to
ebay. I almost wrote an email to the seller but I figured I would mind my own business.
I guess you could also write the buyer- but no one likes a busybody.
It is possible he didn't know that the 68 was made out of nickel, and it is possible that the buyer knew this as well. But what if the buyer thought he was getting an all silver lot?
what is our responsibly as bystanders?
