mmorgan22 Pillar of the Community United States 570 Posts	Posted 07/04/2011 1:54 pm Pcgs and NGC are both good reputable companies for grading coins. If you are grading US coins, I would most likely would go with PCGS. I feel that PCGS is a little stricter with grading. If you have a coin that has a problem (e.g. cleaned, environmental damaged, etc.) PCGS will only grade genuine. NGC will give a details grade and tell you what the problem on the coin is. I would use NGC if I had a key date coin with some sort of damage, just so I would get a details grade. Report this Post to the Staff

Once you learn to grade a little better you can venture into the 2nd tier slabs and can find some good deals there but I would never tell a new collector to buy anything but PCGS,NGC or ANACS graded coins Report this Post to the Staff

Even ebay won't let you use the Grade and Information from most TPGs. IGC is okay on ebay as a TPG, but I skip over these coins as they may be over graded, so I go to the next coin. just carl Bedrock of the Community United States 20753 Posts	Posted 07/05/2011 11:46 am If buying a coin from a dealer, many times you'll hear "of course it cost more, it's in a PCGS slab". Same if your planning on selling a coin. PCGS just has a really big name so people are expected to pay more. Report this Post to the Staff
