Started to go through my step dads silver nickel set.
1900 through 1919. Some nice ones in there but this one is the best of the lot. After studying the min. for an MS63 grade
this coin made that. I.E.: luster, strike, marks etc. I know it will be impossible to see it
in the one pic. and then the two scans but what would the criteria have to be to make MS64 ? This naturally can only be done in hand and I only put up the pics to show the coin not to really grade it. Pics. are not good enough to get the full luster as well as detail etc. Would need to know how much more luster has to be present as well as any slight marks etc. to differentiate between a 63 and a 64.
Might even go 65 ? Who knows. If the info I get seems to have the coin lean more towards a 64 then it would be worthwhile to send it in for a cert.

Thanks for any help.

Images far too rough to tell. Try a scan, or no flash.

Best I can do. The pic. is with no flash.
The other two are scans. Like I mentioned, no way to tell
by a pic or scan anyway. Just wanted the physical criteria
as I wrote.

Physical critea for a Canadian fishscale.According to Charlton..
MS-63 = No traces of wear, will have minor hairline scratches, contact marks and blemishes, will have original mint lustre.
As I look at your coin I see way more scratches than minor,
as for lustre there is some on the reverse but none on the obverse, as for the coin being MS-65 (forget it).
In my humble opinion this coin is no more than AU.

Thanks

"MS-63 = No traces of wear, (O.K.) will have minor hairline scratches,(O.K.) contact marks and blemishes,(None) will have original mint lustre." Rev. and obverse are both the same (luster)Like I mentioned the pics./scans do not show enough detail. Most of those tiny scratches are on the coin flip.
I know the complete history personally of this coin so I know it is Unc. Also had others look at it grade wise and it is min.63. Once again, I was just wondering where the line would be drawn on a 63/64. Forget the pics./scans. 65 I agree, no. And the only reason I am trying to get this nailed down is because one grade is a 200 dollar coin and the other is a 500 dollar coin. Do not want to spend $50.00 to get back a 63. But thanks all anyway.
