A DMPL 1881-S. They're easily-available in high grade, known for superb strikes. You can probably do MS64DMPL for that money, and you'll get a coin which will knock your socks off.

Looks like you can get a 1882 CC in MS 63 for that much.

You can get two common date Carson City dollars both Unc for $175.00 a piece. Maybe even GSA's. They are due for an upwards price change.

not many in that price range is ever going to be rare in that opinion but I would definitely think about SD's recommendation because the 1881-S DMPL coins are usually the most beautifully struck Morgans of the whole series and even though they are plentiful it will still be a sigh to look at. The 82,83,84 CC Morgans are plentiful but not that many in DMPL and you would get nowhere near the grade you could get in a 1881-S. You can find MS-64 and sometimes 65's in 1881-S where you would have to settle for lower grade which will be more baggy of the CC coin

Dave has it right again. The raw coin I picked up for $70 bucks about 3 weeks or so ago. The other was a bit over your 350.00 but high grade morgans are hard to find even on common date coins.

Oh, man, Russ, that raw coin was a stupid good deal.

65, anyways, and a serious shot at PL from the looks of it.

What is scary is they are both the same VAM, and the raw coin is a little earlier die state of the graded one. It will not PL at today's standards as it has just a touch of cartwheel to it. But both as far as depth of strike as great and the raw one has less PMD.

I would try to find a 1878CC in MS64 at that price. I know it is a stretch, but you never know until you start looking around.

Sorry about the type O.

I like the idea of a CC they are Morgan dollars.

The 1879CC might be a little high.

brenpickle probably meant 1878CC.

The 82, 83, and 84CC may also give you a great coin at your price.

He'll be looking for a while, since that's a $10,000 coin in any reputable slab.

Edit: You and I posted at the same time, Larry - you may be right about 1878. That's a little more realistic at $350.

I like the 1892 Morgan in MS63, and the better date S mints in 62 or 63: '85, '86, '88, '89, also '98, '99 & '01.

A 1892-P Morgan dollar in PCGS MS 62 grade would be my choice. It is not a common date and it is an interesting year.
