It has been discussed before, but not in a couple of months...

https://goccf.com/t/88274

And here are some archived posts from earlier in the saga...

http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...PIC_ID=12956
http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...OPIC_ID=2101
http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...OPIC_ID=2062

I moved the topic from General Discussion to the Main Coin Forum since it is numismatically related.

Just because something has been discussed before, or somewhere else on the forum, is cause for closing the thread?

Man...

I can understand closing threads that get nasty, but come on.

This topic was not closed. But another just like it was.

We do this because we want to keep the discussion in one place where everyone can see it.

A lot of people see something and immediately post it without noticing it has already been posted. It happens. It is not necessarily a bad thing (not everyone looks in every forum), so do not take offense when we lock one and redirect readers to the another. It is part of the job.

By the way, the links I listed above are to older discussions. Three of them are archived so you cannot post to them and the other is old enough to leave alone. I provided them for reference, not to redirect the discussion.

It is obvious that this thread is not locked.

I understand closing threads if there were several posts regarding the same topic in a relatively short time. If this was discussed years ago I think a new thread is appropriate (especially if there is updated info on it).
I think you should keep on of the new ones open as the link to the article that tells the story is still good (on all the old posts the links for the story/article are dead links). My Two Cents...

What's worse? Attempting to steal the hardearned gold of everybody in America in exchange for intrinsically worthless paper or having the foresight to preserve these valuable relics which would have been melted down and maybe turned into bars for some fatcat banker?

One part that I find really funny is that the coins were confiscated when the family tried to find out if they were real, but the government says that the family did not pay inheritance tax on them. How can you pay taxes on something if you do not know if it is real and then it is taken from you?

This is an especially good idea because threads are eventual archived. Once they are archived, you can no longer add comments (same as a locked thread). The only option is to post again; linking to the old thread is encouraged (for background information, which is what I did above).

so I'm much more intersted in trying to understand the 'dealings' the government looked at years ago. This does sound pretty fishy. I'm not sure the government has the right to confiscate them though but I love the mystery behind how they got the coins to begin with.

I have stated my opinion on these coins so many times on here I am sure that if someone really wants to know how I feel about this they can just read one of the other topics, I can tell you my argument isn't a popular one with collectors but no one has been able to make me think differently yet because its just what I feel is right
