Just looking for some opinions from the community. What is the most effective auction length and why? In your opinion of course.

I use 7 day auctions because I have the same schedule every week and my items will end the same night the following week. Makes things easier when you know you don't have to work the same day every week. Ten day auctions would be nice since it allows more viewers for the extra 3 days, but ebay also charges you more fees.

I like 5 days auctions. It gives enough time to allows people to find it, but it's not too long either where people get disinterested. If people are too anxious to buy, they will just move on. I also recommend always starting at $.99 because it draws more people in to bid when it's low. They then have an interest in the item and are much more likely to bid again. When you start high, it discourages bidders and they move on. The more bidders you have, the more likely you can start a bidding war and get more for you item. Sorry to get off topic, but my biggest pet peeve on ebay is when sellers list items with a very high starting price or do a BIN that is well over the FMV of the item. Anyways, good luck.

The $.99 start is always a good idea, but also makes you worry that you won't get the price you are expecting.

Very true, but IME, it always seems to work out. You may get an auction where you don't get quite the amount you were looking for, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Just dont' have it end at a weird time, likely really late at night or Sunday morning.

Also I read that you should do your auction around 12 am eastern time. Because of the time differences from west coast to east coast and gives more people a chance to bid at the end.

I do most of mine at 7 days to get a bigger audience for most coins. Silver bullion I do for 3 days because it is usually investors knowing what they want and wanting it now.

I always like to end mine around 10 P.M. EST because that gives the 1st shift people time to get some sleep for the next day and also gives the west coast people time to get home from work
