What sort of albums or means of storage do people use for ancients given the large varities/sizes that are out there? I'm looking for some way to manage them that will allow some sort of order. So far I'm just keeping them in flips.

Most coin will fit in 2x2's, with the exception of Byzantine cup coins with there odd shape, for those I use flips. I use album pages with room for twenty coins and just store them in loose leaf binders.

Check out Lindner coin trays as an alternative too. They are pricy but very good. I keep mine in a variety of storage methods - envelopes, a cabinet and the Lindner trays -- all work but I keep the cabinet for the best ones.

I have three loose leaf binders with 2X2's. Most of my coins fit in the flip and then I store the flip in the binders in order to keep the coins from slipping out when the binder is flat. I then have a Excel catalog with serveral cells for descriptions and pictures, but the last cell indicates the location in which binder, on which page, line, and column. It truely is remarkable and helpful (my son, the PhD, made the spreadsheet for my coins - not me). I would be more then happy to provice a copy of this speadsheet to anyone interested.

Thanks guys. Good info. I've only got a few but could already see it was going to be hectic unless I could get organized. jwharper, I'd sure like to take a look at the Excel catalog you mentioned. Sounds like just the ticket.

Will be glad to send it. Just give me a good e-mail address. I have found that keeping it up on a timely basis makes much less work then waiting to add many at one time. I also have a template for 2X2 inserts. I'll send that as well.

I'm new to this forum, but I didn't know we had to have permission to send email addresses to one another. If that is not the case, I can send you my email address on this posting and you can reply to that. BTW, I told my son someone else may be interested in his program and he was very pleased.

I would be interested in seeing your spreadsheet as well.

I've been developing one for myself with links to my pictures. I'd like to see how you do it.

Regards

When I asked my son to help develop this spreadsheet, being able to link photos of the coins was one of my prerequisites. Again, I'm not sure if I can post my email but I'm going to do it now for anyone interested in this "catalog". ***E-Mail Address Removed*** is my email address. I will be glad to send the spreadsheet and help populate it if you have any problems.

Regarding e-mail addresses...

First, do not post them in the open forum. The e-mail address was removed from the posting above. The reason is that these messages are accessible by anyone, and by anyone, I mean the bad people that harvest e-mail addresses for spam.

Second, we do not allow new members to send or receive e-mail to protect the membership. We do not know you, and you do not know us. This is not to say you are an evil person intent on taking advantage of everyone, we just do not know for certain.

Stick around, get to know us, tell us about yourself and the privileges will come. Patience is a good sign of honourable intent.

I DO understand your policy and you are correct when you say you do not know me and I will abide by the rules hence forth. However, I do have a very nice cataloging system for coins I would like to share when the time is right. Thanks
