Looking for opinions on Intercept albums.

I have several of the Dansco albums, which I like very much. Currently my Walking Liberty series is in a heavily-used (purchased used) Dansco album. I would like to put my treasures in a new album and I'm considering going with Intercept.

For those with experience, please provide your impressions of the album, especially as compared with Dansco products.

The cheapest I have found it online is at Kelley's Coins for $25.95:
http://www.coin-collecting-supplies...t-albums.asp
and uscoinsupply.com for $24.50
I am not certain if that price includes the slipcover.

I also read there:
quote:
There are also several major changes in the new albums, including:
  • They will allow pages to be added or removed
  • The glue will be much heavier
  • The rivets will be much stronger

I assume that (1) albums purchased now will not have these improvements and (2) there have been problems with the durability of these products.

TIA

I have never had any intercept albums so I can not answer not even one of your questions (as I am guessing many others cant since it is getting alot of reads and no one answering)
Rest in Peace

Like Bryan, I have no experience with that brand.

I switched to Dansco, from Whitman, some time ago. I would like to see an intercept, but currently am happy with Dansco.

I have both, Intercept for SAEs and Dansco for State Quarters. I give a very slight nod to Intercept only because the slides protrude from the edge -- with the Dansco, the slides are completely inside the page and to remove them, you have to rub your thumb across the surface of a hole (where a coin may or may not be) to push it out. With Intercepts, the slides stick out the ends, so you can pull them out easily.

I have seen (but do not own) the Whitman album for State Quarters, and it appeared all right too.

Brent-Kruger (www.brent-krueger.com) has Dansco albums for WL halves 1916 to 1947 (#7160) for $16.41, but their shipping charge might be a little steep. They have recently discontinued carrying Intercept Shield albums, their explanation being that they think there are others just as good for less money.

Personally, I also recommend you get the sleeve ("album slipcase") for the album to fit in. Whether it protects the coins better or not, at least it might, and it makes for a "tighter" feel to the whole thing. Brent-Kruger has those for $7.37.

Good luck.

I agree that I would also like the Dansco to have a notch cut out of the edge so you could grab ahold of the slides and pull them out without having to push them out from a hole and then clean the finger prints off of them each time before you put them back in, but that is about the only negative thing I can say about the Dansco albums (well atleast the 7070 anyway). My grandfather has some of the coins he gave me in some folders I dont like at all, they are flimsy fold out types of folders and they just feel cheap to me (not sure who makes them but they are blue type folders) and I have to say the Dansco folders are 100% better then them. I may even try to modify my dansco album pages to the inserts can be pulled out by the side, I had never thought about that until I read your responce but I may try it and see how I like it
Edited to fix spelling

I keep my slabbed coins in intercept boxes, but way prefer the dansco or whitman for raw.

I have Intercept albums and they seem to work fine. I don't think its been around long enough for most to give an opinion.

How long does a dansco album protect your coins for? The intercept mentions 15 years or so.

I use Danscos, but I would switch to Intercept Shield in a heartbeat if they offered the albums I need. But they don't make (to the best of my knowledge) albums for U.S. Type Set, Canadian Type Set, or British Victorian Type Set. If I ever decide to collect a series, I would give a lot of consideration to the I.S. albums, though. They are pricey though.
