Hi Folks:
This is my first post on the site!
My father bought my sister a 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin (UH1) back in 2009 for $1,239.00. He gave me about the same amount of money and told me to buy one for myself.
Fortunately for my sister, the price went up on the coin. Unfortunately for me, I did not buy the coin. I still have the money, however, and was wondering if there's anything comparable on the market that I can purchase.
Your help would be REALLY appreciated guys!
Vanessa

ebay has everything you are looking for in gold or silver whether it be bars or rounds. They will definitely have some gold bars in your price range if thats what your looking for.

thank you, but I'm looking for a gold coin that is comparable in design to the 2009 Double Eagle. I have about $1,300 to spend, so I'm looking for something similar. Any ideas?

If at all possible, try to save a tad bit more $ and get 1 oz of gold. If you really want to stick to a coin form, then look at the American Gold Buffalo. I personally like the Gold Buffalo and the PAMP Suisse Bar from Switzerland sealed with a certificate. Remember, a gold bar will usually have less premium than a gold coin (Double Eagles / Buffalo's etc). The common denominator is they are both gold - nothing more - nothing less. I own both because I appreciate both aspects. (and it's fun) If you really have a tight budget, then get a gold numismatic coin that's less than 1 oz. Gold Buffaloes, Canadian Gold Maples and American Double Eagles can be had for less than $1200 but not for 1 troy oz. Good luck

For $1300 the closest you can get is a one half ounce American Gold Eagle. A one ounce will cost you more than $1600. the ultra high relief now goes for $2300+.

Save your money till you can buy a full 1 oz coin, the premiums on fractional's is ridiculous.

Quote: Save your money till you can buy a full 1 oz coin, the premiums on fractional's is ridiculous. Very true, the premium on fractional AGEs is very high, however, I just factor that into the price, meaning that's what they cost and I can always sell it for about the same premium anyways. So even though technically you get less gold for your money, you're not losing much because you will still obtain the benefit of the premium when you sell. I thought perhaps with the run up in gold that the premium may disappear, but it hasn't so far and has remained steady, so IMO, it's a wash b/c you will get the benefit of the premium if and when you sell. As for your specific question, there's no specific coin that I know of that is similar to what your sister has that you can buy for $1300. The closest would be the 1/2 ounce AGE. You do have a ton of options though and I'm sure you'll find something that you'll like.
