OK, since there are many dates actually... It's NOT:
- 1973 - 1974-D - 1977-D

1972-P it is....
Why is this one so different? Is this what the strike "suppose" to look like when new? I have about 5 rolls of these... all are different than this one.
It has 100% of the moon outline too...

Check out the Red Book. High relief reverse dies (Variety III) were used for late 72P and later. It looks like 71,72,73 are all slightly different. Blast it Peaceman, you may be the root of my next obsession! `smile`

Die wear/abrasion affect dies from the early die state. The Ike dollars had more clashes on the moon creater area, so they will be polished down more in that area.

Understood...
But I've looked at over 100 1972 Ikes, all with very nice feathers. None of them have the one line at the left side of the "E" in "ONE"
Can anyone check theirs...

Peaceman:
Your 1972P reverse is a 1972P-Type3. Islands centered under Florida.
It's also the reverse used on the 1973S Silver Business Strike Ike.
I checked both of these coins in my collection and the long crater line between the N & E is there.
Chuck.
