i have been having trouble finding a good Buffalo nickle were I can still read the date I have a few but the dates are all warn off is that normal or could the be fake

Its normal for the Dates to wear off on the older ones. Nickels are notorious for wearing quickly.

You may be able to get a date yet. Use the search option and enter "restored". There's been plenty of postings on this subject.
