1935-S Peace Dollar Question - Coin Community Forum

Wornslick Pillar of the Community United States 1304 Posts	Posted 07/14/2011 10:04 pm The past couple of weeks I have been looking for a 1935-S Peace dollar in AU-58 grade. I found this one on E-Bay and while it was a better grade than I was looking for I added it to my watch list just to see what it sold for. It sold for $73.00 which is a bargain if it was a MS-63 like the seller wrote on the card. I passed on it because I did not like the way the mint marked looked. I studied my S-Peace Dollars and none had a mint mark like it. The mint mark looks like it has a square box around it to me. I ended up buying a AU-55 so my Peace dollar set is complete, but I am going to upgrade a few of them. Report this Post to the Staff

There is a premium for the San Francisco coin in grades of AU and above, so there is an incentive for an added mint mark alteration. You definitely made the right call by passing on this coin.
