I like the coin, but how could the collar have caused a clip as the seller says?

It's an off-center strike on a clipped planchet. The reverse die was the hammer die and the collar resisted depression. There are serious abrasions on the obverse face. I don't think it's worth any more than the current high bid.

The purpose of slobbing is to allow ignorant investors to buy/sell coins without having to learn what they're doing.

Error collectors study the minting process, and rarely need an outsider to confirm what went wrong.
