Hello Forum. Earlier this year I bought some coins from a mail order coin company named Coast to Coast. I was pleased with the coins and their service. I'm on their mailing list now, they send me a great looking catalogue every month. They have nice selections and a good variety. I'm thinking of buying from them again, just wondering if other forum members have used this dealer and what your thoughts are. Thanks.

I order more of my coins from Coast to Coast than any other dealer, with the exception of my own coin dealer just down the highway.
Coast to Coast has always been good -- good prices, pleasant to talk with on the phone when ordering, good quality coins, and quick delivery.
I really like the company.
I don't think you can go wrong doing business with them.

Hi there. Sorry to make my first post on an arguably negative note, but if this is Ken Pines' Coast to Coast you're talking about, here are some experiences of others you may wish to read.. I have not purchased coins from them.

Hi TSmith3510, Unless you are good at grading the series of coins you are buying and are prepared to ruthlessly return any sliders, grossly overgraded, and chrome-shiny coins that look like they were put in a dip and forgotten, I'd stay away from Ken Pines Coast to Coast and all of the other big page slick advertisers in Coin World and Numismatic News and other coin mags as well. When looking at their mailings of slick ads, ask yourself why none of these coins are Third party Graded? (I am not a big fan of slabs, by the way) All of the old, rare, ExPENSIVE coins are raw...another big red flag. These firms like Pines' make a huge profit selling junk to new/uninformed collectors who will one day be very disappointed, and don't seem to be ashamed at all...it's just business. My humble advice to you would be save your money and go to a coin show where you can see lots of coins and prices, lots of different kinds of dealers, and take all the time it takes to develop relationships and find someone you can trust NOT TO RIP YOU OFF. By doing so you will save lots of money, make good numismatic friends, and become much more knowledgable. And by all means stay with this forum and/or other coin forums where you will find lots of expert advice to make this hobby of ours significantly more pleasant and enjoyable.

I agree about the coin show. This is a great place to look at, educate yourself, and more than likely find some nice coins. I have only been to one, but I was truely impressed. There was soooooo much to choose from. Does anyone know if there is a list or a website for coin shows coming in certain areas?

You can go to www.coinworld.comthey have a list on there where you can seach by state. Also for as far as coast to coast is conserned. I would never buy form them becuase of there prices they are very high just like the guys on TV. But with that said. I am in the middle of trying to get all US Proof set. I use coast to coast pricing as a referance though I have made a copy of it and put it in my wallet and now I have a price that I know not to go aver when buying them because I no the prices at CTC is pricey. I have heard a lot of people saying that there so called BU is not really a BU or it has been cleaned but if you do buy form them make sure to take a good look at the coins and if they are not up to par send them back as soon as posible

I remember Coast to Coast was the very first phone-ordered coins I purchased when I started collecting. That was a few years ago but I can truly say my experience was rather interesting, and wonderful as it turned out.
I received a flyer/catalog from them and in it they had a couple coins that caught my eye. The first was an 1891cc Morgan advertized as BU for $40 (remember this was a few years ago) and a 1938 D/S Buffalo advertized as AU also for $40. Being a newbie I figured their word was good and they just had to be very knowledgable. Well I found out just how smart they were. Turned out their attempt to deceive backfired on them. I sent to coins to be slabbed as soon as I received them (as advised by a dealer friend) and when I opened the package I saw that big AU-55 on the Morgan, darn. What turned out though was the Morgan just happened to be a Vam-3 "spitting eagle" (put on the label luckily). Wow, what a relief. When I saw the Buffalo, I was also surprized. The AU buffalo turned out to be MS-65. If you look at the prices today you will see that I really lucked out this time around. Turned out Coast to Coast wasn't as smart as they thought they were or just never took the time to really look at the coins closer.
I then decided that I would not buy from them again. It turned out OK this time but next time probably would have really cost me.

I checked out their site and I have to say the coins I have been buying for my type set that I saw on their site was WAY overpriced so if you are doing alot of business with them in my opinion you are getting ripped off, HJB has better prices than c2c has and alot better looking coins in the grade they claim theirs is in

I have NEVER had any luck at coin shows as the dealers figure they will never see you again so its cut and run. I like doing business with local dealers but have bought from numerous national dealers with great luck. Also have a couple of Canadian dealers that I do business with as well.

Sorry to hear the negative feedback about Coast to Coast. Just yesterday in the mail I received a small order from them, and the coins were exactly as advertised, and, I felt, fairly priced. Also, they arrived just four days after I ordered them.
So, I have to stick with my earlier comments. For me at least, I think Coach to Coast is a good company.

I have bought from Coast to Coast without any problems and my wife has purchased numerous Morgans from them. The only REAL problem I have had is with a New York dealer sending whizzed coins a few years back. Needless to say I don't buy from them any longer!

I appreciate all of the honest feedback. This forum is proving to be extremely useful for me. The sharing of knowledge, experience, information, opinions, ideas, etc., is amazing. I no longer feel like I'm collecting by myself. Thanks for everthing. TS

I have bought coins from Coast to Coast in the past, with mixed results. I do buy some of my Maple Leafs from them- it doesn't seem like any dealer here in town wants to carry them, and they've always been fine. I bought a Proof Kennedy single from them once, and I got a coin with a really nice strike-through error. But I've also bought other coins for a type set album that I felt were slightly overgraded. Nothing drastic, I didn't pay for a MS-65 and get an XF or anything like that, but it was enough to make me say I'll stick to only buying my Maple Leafs from them. Rachel

from their pictures (the ones they do have) of the coins I checked I needed for my type set, their coins are horribly over graded compared to the dealers like HJB that I have been getting my coins from

I just started collecting coins and after getting feedback on a few forums and then painstakingly comparing prices and return policy, I found that wscoin.com, which had been recommended by a friend, has the best prices and a 30-day return policy.
