This penny has a full 90 degree die rotation. I have heard of this occurring from time to time, and I'm wondering if anyone has seen something similar to this 1991. A full ninety degree rotation would seem to be extremely rare.

Forgive the slightly out of focus images shown mirrored on the 3rd photograph.

Very cool! 90 degree rotations are elusive, they do occur in years 1944, 1964, 1965 and 1967. I have never seen or heard of one from the 1990s, especially with the 12-sided strikes! Awesome find!!

Awesome coin staircase! I would love to have a penny like that in my collection! Did you buy it or find it?

Hi and thanks for the comments! It was discovered while sorting some rolls of pennies a couple of years ago. I have an idea of it's value, but unless I find a sister coin, this one isn't going anywhere.

At least we know rotated coins can be in modern coinage as well.
P.S. that's a keeper.
